International Round Table – Stockholm 2025

After hearing countless stories about past International Round Table events, expectations were sky-high for our trip to Sweden—and Stockholm did not disappoint! With around 45 tablers from across Europe, including 7 from Halifax RT, this was a weekend packed with camaraderie, culture, and a few surprises along the way.

✈️ Day 1: From Rain to Revelry

We kicked things off in true British style—under grey skies and drizzle. Spirits remained high, though, thanks to President Regan’s airport refreshments. Upon landing in Stockholm, we dove straight into the action with house racing and mingling with fellow tablers. The evening rolled on with a BBQ and games at a lively sports bar in central Stockholm, where pool and shuffleboard brought out our competitive sides.

🚤 Day 2: Sightseeing, Surprises & Swedish Hospitality

Saturday was all about exploring the city. A walking and boat tour gave us a taste of Stockholm’s charm, complete with a surprise encounter with the Swedish Prime Minister! The boat tour took an unexpected turn—literally—as broken rudders transformed it into a floating party.

The evening’s gala dinner at the elegant Oddfellows venue was a highlight: a delicious three-course meal, inspiring speeches, and dancing that lasted well into the night.

🥌 Day 3: Pétanque & the Great Sunday Shutdown

Sunday brought out our competitive edge again with a pétanque tournament. Halifax RT held their own, though Lee made a bold move by switching teams in pursuit of victory. As some members departed, others ventured to Norway by ferry. Meanwhile, Dan and I stayed behind—only to discover that Stockholm virtually shuts down on Sundays. Finding an open bar became a mission in itself!

🤝 Looking Ahead

This trip wasn’t just about sightseeing and socializing—it was about building connections and laying the groundwork for future International Round Table meetings through 2029. We left with new friendships, unforgettable memories, and a renewed sense of what makes RT so special.
