It would be remiss of me to not highlight and acknowledge the wonderful work and perseverance of our longest current member, Dan Hales. This man has kept tabling going and ensured that Round Table has kept a foothold in Halifax to continue supporting the community and inspire young lads to do the same. Dan has been chairman of Halifax Round Table for 5 years as it went through growing pains of losing members to thier transition to 41 club, since then it has been revitalised and flourished. Thank you Dan! I managed to get a recap of the years gone by from Dan;

"I joined Halifax Round Table back in 2017, I already knew it was national as my brother living near Bristol had recommended it to me, I soon found out just how big it is, as not long after we were due to host or Table brothers from across Europe!

It's hard to summarise my highlights in a short space. We've had some cracking trips abroad, the idea is a cheap as possible, somewhere a bit warm, do some sightseeing, activities and sample some of the local bars.

We've done our own events such as axe throwing, archery, pool nights, bowls, boules and bowling and so much more. As a close Table we often do things outside of the normal events, we went to a October fest event, we went to Leeds for go karting with food and beers after, we'll meet to watch football, go on walks or have a BBQ. We do get involved in events in the Yorkshire area, we were area sports champions in the last few years, you compete in a range of different activities, like egg and spoon race, sack race, also 5 a side (which we were champions of!)

We've managed to be lucky enough to raise lots of money for charity along the way, mainly the Santa Sleigh we do. Last year we added an event, thanks to the help of The Cross Keys, we hosted a race night, where we dressed up as the horses, had a track and away we went, as we had no costs it meant the whole amount raised could go to Overgate Hospice.

It has been a great group to be a part of, we've had struggles with numbers, with covid years not helping, but we're now on the rise, and we have a great keen team. You can be as involved as you'd want to be, I wanted to be fully involved so I've been chairman a few times, but there wouldn't be any pressure to be.

So, if you're in a rut, need more social activities to do, you need not look any further, it's a great laugh, great cause, you'll make great friends" - Daniel Hales - Former Chairman
